Trinamool Congress worker found dead in West Bengal’s Nandigram, party alleges BJP

After the body of a dead Trinamool worker was found on Wednesday night, the Trinamool Congress has alleged that supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) killed the party worker in West Bengal’s Nandigram.

52-year-old Mahadeb Bishoi of Nandigram Block 1 Gokulnagar Panchayat area of East Medinipur district of West Bengal has died.

Police sources said that the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, but no one has been arrested so far. They said that there were many injuries on the body of the deceased.

It is said that the body of the deceased was found from a tea shop in Vrindavan Chowk Bazar in Nandigram.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress workers and leaders have staged protests in the area, with many accusing Mr Bishoi of being threatened and pressured by local BJP leaders to join the Trinamool.

Trinamool Congress leaders also alleged that Mr. Bishoi was killed by BJP supporters and demanded a high-level probe and immediate arrest of the culprits.

β€œMany BJP supporters who are part of the Gram Panchayat are behind the killing of our party workers. They killed him and left him in the shop. In fact, he was attacked a fortnight before he was killed,” said Bappaditya Garg, president of Trinamool’s Nandigram 1 block.

‘Yesterday Subendu Adhikari came to Nandigram. Soon after, a Trinamool Congress worker was killed. We believe there is a link between the two incidents,” he added, referring to BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Subendu Adhikari.

Meanwhile, local BJP leaders have denied the allegations, claiming that Mr Bishoi died after drinking alcohol at a Christmas picnic on Tuesday.
