Boxing Day Test: After a few days of nervous waiting, Australia will be able to call on Travis Head for the fourth India vs Australia Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In-form Travis Head has been officially fitted ahead of the Boxing Day Test.
According to reports from Australia, captain Pat Cummins confirmed this at Christmas. He also added that teenager Sam Konstas will make his debut in place of Nathan McSweeney, while Scott Boland will return to the playing XI. Boland will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI.
Australian captain Pat Cummins was quoted by several media organizations as saying, “Trave (Travis Head) is good to go, he will play. He just picked up a few last things today and yesterday. But there are no worries about Trave’s injury. He will be fully fit.”
Travis Head, who is playing in the Boxing Day Test, was under a cloud after suffering a minor quad strain while batting in the Brisbane Test last week.
The Australian vice-captain underwent a fitness test at Christmas. With two more Tests remaining in the series between India and Australia, both the teams have won one match each.
Talking about Travis Head’s importance to the team, Cummins said: “I don’t think you’ll see him manage a lot throughout the game. He just makes the plays he does. Maybe around the fielding, if he’s a bit uncomfortable, we’ll (manage him), but he’s absolutely Fit. He’s been in this incredible vein for the last 12 months. He’s been hitting the ball really cleanly. You can literally see the pressure coming off the opposition. I love that he’s in our team and I don’t have to field and bowl to him. He’s hit the ball and I’ve seen someone do it for so long.”
