Union minister and BJP state president Sukant Majumdar on Wednesday said West Bengal has become a “safe haven for terrorist and jihadist elements” under the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government.
Majumdar hit out at the government over reports of arrests of alleged Ansar-al-Islam Bangladesh activists in West Bengal.
He spoke to the media at a program organized to pay homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth centenary.
Majumdar said, “Bangladesh jihadi elements who were arrested were in possession of many ration cards, passports, Aadhaar cards and voter ID cards. The police and administration failed to track such jihadists.”
“Due to the apathetic attitude of the TMC government, Islamist extremists are setting up bases in places like Murshidabad district, buying genuine documents and radicalizing the youth. The CM is busy pursuing his appeasement policy and is not taking any action against Islamic extremists,” alleged Union Minister of State for Education Majumdar.
“We live in a lot
Insecure position in the state. Inter-state STF forces are nabbing terrorists from places like Murshidabad and Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district. While we are talking about ‘sushan’ (good governance) started by Vajpayee ji when he was the prime minister, we are witnessing ‘aposhasan’ (misgovernance) in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee’s rule,” he said.
Eight suspected Ansar-al-Islam Bangladesh activists were recently arrested by the Assam Police with the help of their counterparts in West Bengal and Kerala.
Two of the eight were arrested from Murshidabad district, who planned to attack prominent Hindu leaders and cut off communications between Siliguri and the northeastern states.
Inquiries revealed that they had managed to procure all the documents required to present themselves as citizens in recent years.
