Hyderabad: Responding to a Dial 100 call, the Hyderabad police rescued a 17-year-old girl from a group of drunken cab drivers who tried to assault her. The suspect was arrested after a dramatic chase in Annanagar area of ββBoraband.
The victim went to Madhpur in an autorickshaw with her alleged boyfriend to return home. Four drunken taxi drivers on two motorcycles started chasing the autorickshaw. At Annanagar, they stopped the vehicle, forced their way inside and beat up the victim, police said.
“A migrant worker from Bihar alerted our night patrol team early on Tuesday morning,” said SR Nagar ACP P Venkataraman. Deccan Chronicle. “Caller reports four intoxicated men assaulting girl in car, pushing victim’s boyfriend and assaulting girl.”
The police control room was immediately informed and within 10 minutes two patrolling teams along with security units reached the spot. “When our team arrived, the suspects took the victim in an auto and tried to flee. However, the auto driver removed the ignition key and fled,” the ACP added.
The suspects fled on a motorcycle but were chased for 700 meters by police before being apprehended. After the rescue, the victim’s family thanked the police for taking immediate action. Based on her statement and her family’s complaint, a case was registered under the POCSO Act, attempted rape, attempted murder, wrongful restraint, voyeurism, kidnapping and humiliating modesty.
The accused – Shaikh Akbar, Shaikh Farid, Mohammad Mohsin and Ambadas – all cab drivers from Borabanda and Chandnagar – had consumed alcohol after their shift. After seeing the victim in an autorickshaw, they decided to abduct and beat him up, police sources said.
The arrested persons have been produced in the court along with the seized mobile phone and two motorcycles. The police have also detained the autorickshaw driver for investigation on suspicion of having a relationship with the accused.
