As the Delhi assembly elections approach, all the three accused in the Delhi riots 2020 are likely to contest the elections. Ishrat Jahan, one of the accused in the riots, may get a Congress ticket.

Besides, Shah Rukh Pathan, known as the “poster boy” of the infamous Delhi riots, is likely to get an AIMIM ticket to contest the assembly polls. Notably, the party had earlier fielded Tahir Hussain, another accused in the riots case, from Jaffrabad in North-East Delhi.

Currently in jail, Shahrukh Pathan is accused in two cases related to the Delhi riots – one related to pointing a gun at the police and the other to the conspiracy to kill a man named Rohit Shukla.

AIMIM leader Shoaib Jamai has said that the party will give ticket to the accused if his family wants it.

Besides, Congress is likely to field Ishrat Jahan from Okhla constituency. According to sources, Congress MP and Lok Sabha candidate Rahul Gandhi has nominated for Jahan.

She is the daughter-in-law of former MLA and Rajya Sabha MP Parvez Hashmi. He was arrested in connection with the Delhi riots in 2020 – in which more than 50 people died.
