The body of the Chennai cab driver who fell into the sea has been found

The body of a cab driver who fell into the sea along with his vehicle at Chennai port has been recovered on Tuesday (December 17, 2024).

M Mohammad Saji, 33, of Kodungaiyur, drove a taxi operated by a private firm to ferry Coast Guard personnel to Chennai Port Trust’s Jawahar Dock. On Tuesday night, he was driving a taxi with Coast Guard officer Jogendra Kand on the back seat when the vehicle slipped and fell into the sea.

The police said that both Saji and Kanda drowned and managed to escape by opening the back window of the taxi. He was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday (December 18, 2024), Fire and Rescue Service and Coast Guard personnel intensified their search to recover the bodies of the driver and the taxi. They pulled the taxi out of the sea, but the body of the driver was not in it.

The body was found a few meters away from the accident site on Wednesday night. It was recovered and sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Harbor police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.
