Fraudsters impersonating IAS officers dupe job seekers in Odisha; held one

Bhubaneswar: A job fraud racket has been busted in Odisha’s Cuttack, where job seekers were cheated out of crores of rupees by impersonating senior IAS officers. Vidanasi police have arrested a person named Daniel Raj, a resident of Subhadranagar, while the main planner woman is absconding.

Fraudsters posed as senior officials of Odisha’s Panchayati Raj and Water Supply Departments to lure victims. They promised to leak job opportunities and exam papers, persuading job seekers to pay huge amounts in installments. Once the payment is made, the scammers will change their contact number and disappear.

The racket has affected individuals across Odisha, with many losing substantial amounts of money on the pretext of securing jobs through recruitment exams. Victims reportedly paid hundreds of millions before realizing they had been scammed.

The scam came to light after the victim filed a detailed complaint at the Bidnasi police station. Following these reports, law enforcement launched an intensive investigation, which led to the arrest of Daniel Raj. Police are now trying to nab the mastermind, whose arrest is expected to throw more light on the extent of the racket.

“This is a large-scale scam involving multiple accomplices. We are working to identify and arrest all those involved,” said a senior police officer. Officials are also working to recover the fraudulent amount and provide relief to the victims.

The case has sparked concern among locals, underscoring the need for vigilance against fraudulent schemes targeting vulnerable job seekers. As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are determined to dismantle the network and ensure justice for the victims.
