Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh High Court questioned the CID as to why the second accused in the case, former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, was not arrested, despite seeking anticipatory bail to prevent his arrest. A single judge bench presided over by Justice VRK Kripa Sagar heard the case on Thursday.
Advocate Dammalapati Srinivas, appearing on behalf of the CID, submitted to the court that the investigation officer (IO) has the prerogative to arrest the accused. He said that if the IO believes that arresting a particular accused will help the facts to come out, the IO will proceed with the arrest process.
The AG said that the investigation was at a crucial stage and argued that granting anticipatory bail to the accused would hinder the investigation. He requested the court to dismiss the accused’s application for pre-arrest bail. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court reserved its verdict.
