Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to ensure quality education for all, especially the backward communities.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar Educational Institutions at Bagh Lingampally here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy highlighted the initiatives taken by the government to address the gaps in the education system.
The event organized to mark the 10th death anniversary of the founder of the organization, Gaddam Venkataswamy, was attended by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, Transport Minister Ponam Prabhakar, MLAs Nagaraju and Gaddam Vivekanad, MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, former minister P Shankar Rao and many other dignitaries. , college secretary and former minister G Vinod, and correspondent Saroja Vivek. Alumni from around the world joined the celebration, reflecting the institution’s legacy.
Mr. Reddy outlined the Congress government’s efforts to improve the education sector in Telangana. He introduced Yuva Bharat Integrated Residential Schools initiative, aimed at imparting English medium education up to class 12 with international standards.
“These schools, set up on 20-25 acre campuses, cater to students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and other minority communities. We have started them in 60 constituencies and plan to expand them to all 119 assembly constituencies with an estimated budget of ₹ 5,000 crore. It is,” he said.
Mr. Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for neglecting primary education, saying it had failed to recruit teachers for a decade. ‘Within 6 months of coming to power, we have recruited 11,000 teachers and facilitated promotion and transfer. In addition, we have appointed full-time vice-chancellors to address the long-standing vacancies in the universities,” he said.
Appreciating the Dr. BR Ambedkar Educational Institution, he said, “This institution has set an example by focusing on the upliftment of the underprivileged community without any profit motive. Unlike many for-profit educational institutions, it does not collect donations and remains committed to social service.”
He praised the Gaddam family’s contribution to education and public service and asked the institution to conduct new courses to give it the status of an autonomous university.
