A 26-year-old cab driver was allegedly stabbed to death in northeast Delhi on December 18 after an altercation with passengers who initially refused to pay a fare of Rs 400, Delhi Police said.
Delhi Police on Friday arrested one of the passengers, Deepanshu, and arrested a minor, who had reached the spot along with another accused Nikhil on the instructions of the three men when the cabby dropped them off at Sonia Vihar and demanded a fare. The police said that efforts are being made to arrest the remaining accused Mayank, Rahul and Nikhil.
According to the police, Sandeep, a resident of Jahangir Puri, a taxi driver, died at Jag Pravesh Chand Hospital.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East Delhi) Rakesh Paveria, the incident took place on December 18 at 1.15 am at Nanaksar picket in Sonia Vihar.
“Three passengers hailed a taxi from Noida to 2 Pusa Sonia Vihar. But they refused to pay the Rs 400 fare and started fighting with him and they called two more accomplices to assault the cab driver,” the officer said.
He said that during the fight, one of the accused stabbed the victim in the head and stomach.
The police have registered a case under Section 109 (2) of the Indian Penal Code and the statement of the injured person was initially recorded in the DD entry at the hospital.
During the investigation, the police traced a man named Prateek, who had booked the taxi, near the Sunday market in Kondli. “On questioning, he revealed that he had drunk Dipanshu, Rahul, Mayank, Nikhil and a minor on December 17, and later he had booked a cab for Dipanshu, Rahul and Mayank to Sonia Vihar,” the officer said. .
Deepanshu told the police that Nikhil had stabbed the taxi driver during the scuffle, DCP Paveria said, adding that Deepanshu was earlier involved in another attempted murder of Sonia Vihar.
