Suspects in the Vadakara hit and run case have been arrested on charges of claiming insurance by forging documents

The police arrested the suspect C. Another case has been registered against Sajeel. In a new case registered at Nadapuram police station, it is alleged that he obtained vehicle insurance facility by furnishing fake information and documents.

A 68-year-old woman from Thalassery died in the accident on February 17. Her granddaughter, who suffered severe injuries, was in a coma for several months at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. Kozhikode Rural Police identified the 36-year-old suspect, who fled the scene and went to Dubai, after a 10-month long investigation.

According to the police, the suspect took advantage of the insurance by claiming that his vehicle crashed into the compound wall. They said that while the family of the injured girl was struggling to get treatment under the insurance scheme after the delay in identifying the vehicle, she got compensation of Rs 30,000 from the insurance company.

Police officials at Vadakara station said the suspect, already charged under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence or rash act), will be brought back from Dubai for further legal proceedings. The special investigation team that is going to investigate the incident is going to submit a report to the court on Monday (November 16).
