Superintendent of Police R Gangadhar Rao said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will take over the security of the Vijayawada International Airport at Gannavaram in Krishna district.
Recently, the authorities sent a proposal to the government to merge Vijayawada International Airport in NTR district with Krishna district citing security reasons. Due to the increase in the number of domestic and international flights, airport security should be tightened. The movement of VIPs has also increased,β said Mr. Gangadhar Rao Hindu tuesday
The SP who welcomed the President of India Draupadi Murmu at the airport said, ‘400 police personnel including Special Security Force (SPF), Armed Reserve, Octopus and Civil Police were monitoring security at Vijayawada International Airport round the clock.
Besides this, additional forces will be deployed at the airport during the visit of VIPs. Police have coordinated with Intelligence Bureau (IB), Intelligence Security Wing (ISW), Protocol, airport authorities, revenue, fire and other department officials for the President’s visitβ said Mr. Gangadhar Rao.
Due to the increase in VIP traffic, the police regularly reviews the security of the Vijayawada International Airport. Vigilance was heightened and a fake operation was conducted at the airport recently, the SP said.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had earlier appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the CISF to take over airport security.
