Sugarcane crushing operations have started at the cooperative sugar mill in Villupuram

The sugarcane crushing season for the financial year 2024-25 has started from Wednesday at the public sector Chengalarayan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Periyasevalai.

About 4,000 farmers have produced sugarcane in about 9,987 acres and the sugarcane has been registered for supply to mills for the current season. In this season, the mill was expected to crush about 275,000 tons of sugarcane.

Forest Minister K Ponmudi formally inaugurated the crossing season.

It is mentioned in the statement that farmers will be given Rs 3,151 per ton of sugarcane. A subsidy of Rs 215 per tonne was released to encourage members of the society who registered and crushed sugarcane during the last crushing season of 2023-24. A total of 7337 million rupees have been directly deposited in the accounts of the members of sugar cooperatives.
