Karimnagar:A huge controversy erupted when non-vegetarian food packets were distributed to people at the Sri Raja Rajeshwar Swamy Temple complex in Vemulawada in Rajanna Sirsilla district on Wednesday.
Devotees and Hindus, including BJP leaders, have expressed outrage after the packet containing ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Merry Christmas’ was found. They have also found some packets with the names of voluntary organizations written on them.
Members of Hindu organizations claimed that such acts were committed by non-Hindus and accused the temple administration of not addressing the issue as it was distributed in high traffic areas of the temple. They criticized the staff for keeping silent even after seeing some members distributing non-vegetarian packets in the temple premises.
Meanwhile, a temple employee told Deccan Chronicle on condition of anonymity that the staff thought that some members of a volunteer organization were distributing food packets to beggars outside the temple. How would they know what was inside the packet? After seeing some people eating in the temple premises, he asked them to go out. They later cleared the area, he added.
BJP’s Vemulawada President R. Santosh Babu said that when they went to take the matter to their notice, no high official was found in the temple. Such incidents happen because there is no proper monitoring of what is happening in and around the temple. This was done to spread Christianity in the shadow of celebrating Christmas Day, he alleged.
He said that a complaint has been lodged with the police to search for the person who distributes packets of non-vegetarian food especially in the temple and requested the authorities to take immediate action.
