Rahul Gandhi has reached Kerala to pay his respects to Sonia Gandhi’s private secretary

Mr. Gandhi and his sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, fondly called ‘Madhavan Uncle’, were very close to the Madhavan Gandhi family. He passed away at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on Monday. His body was brought from Delhi to his house in Ollur.

Mr. Gandhi arrived at Madhavan’s residence at half past nine in the morning from a private hotel in Thrissur. He spoke to Madhavan’s family for an hour and paid his respects to the departed soul. Later, Mr. Gandhi went to Nedumbassery and from there, he would go to Delhi.

Police were posted on the road from Thrissur when Mr. Gandhi arrived at Thaikkattusseri. Kerala Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Leader of Opposition VD Sathisan, MLA KK Ramachandran, senior Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala and VM Sudheeran, AICC General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal, Thrissur Mayor MK Varghese, and Congress district leaders. Josh Vallur, MP Vincent, Joseph Tajit and former MP Ramya Haridas were among those who came to pay their last respects.

Years ago, Mr. Gandhi went to Thrissur with Ms. Vadra to attend Madhavan’s son’s wedding. Madhavan knew Rahul and Priyanka since childhood.

Madhavan, who maintained close ties with the Nehru-Gandhi family, was fondly respected by the current parliamentarians.
