Additionally, BMRCL also announced that the first CBTC of Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra) from Titagarh Rail System Limited (TRSL) (Communication Based Train Control) will likely arrive at Hebbagodi depot on January 15, 2025.
A six-coach DTG train is ready to relieve commuters on the highly congested Purple Line connecting Whitefield and Chhallaghatta and the Green Line (Silk Institute-Madhavara). After assembly, the prototype will undergo static and electrical circuit tests followed by dynamic tests on the main line.
China’s CRRC Corporation Limited has been awarded the contract to supply 216 new coaches for the Purple Line (Line-1), Green Line (Line-2), and Yellow Line (Line-3) for Bangalore Metro’s Phase 2 project (73.95 km). was . CRRC has partnered with TRSL to manufacture railsets in India to comply with local manufacturing standards.
Of these, 126 coaches (21 six-coach trains) are for Purple and Green Lines and 90 coaches (15 six-coach trains) are for Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra). The remaining 20 six-coach DTG trains will be manufactured by TRSL at its Uttarpara facility in West Bengal. According to BMRCL officials, the first DTG train from TRSL is expected in Q4 of 2025 and the Purple and Green lines will receive all 21 DTG trains by Q1 of 2027.
Meanwhile, TRSL plans to deliver its first train on January 15, 2025 for the Yellow Line and the second train in February, BMRCL plans to start operations with three trains at a frequency of 30 minutes each. The first prototype train from CRRC reached Bengaluru on February 14. While both the CBTC and DTG trains were prototyped in China, the remaining 34 trainsets (14 CBTC and 20 DTG) are being manufactured in India. The Yellow Line was expected to begin operations by 2021, but challenges such as COVID-19, procurement delays, FDI norms and trade restrictions with China have delayed the production and distribution of the trainsets.
