Protest by tribal bodies demanding cancellation of leases granted to non-tribals

Visakhapatnam: Adivasi Girijana Fifth Schedule Sadhana Samiti along with Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Labor Union staged a protest at Ravikamat MPDO office in Anakpalli district demanding return of land rights to tribals who were unfairly dismissed during the Jaganna survey.

The protestors alleged that after the re-survey classified these tribal plantations as government land in the Detailed Land Record (DLR), the land was unfairly distributed to non-tribals, politicians and real estate developers.

The protestors have submitted a petition to the Deputy Tehsildar in this regard.

The tribal leaders said that the community members had petitioned the Kovugunta Revenue Sadasu demanding that the land allotment be canceled and restored to the original tribal farmers. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the issues raised in the Revenue Sadas would be resolved within 45 days, but even after 50 days, no decisive action has been taken in the matter, they insisted.

On Monday, the tribal representatives met District Collector Vijay Krishnan at the Ravikamtam Mandal MPDO office demanding an inquiry into the matter in the affected villages and return of land to the tribal families who were cultivating those lands.
