Prithvi Shaw dropped from Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad; Sky, featuring Shardul Thakur Cricket News

Mumbai’s senior selection committee has once again dropped opener Prithvi Shaw from the Vijay Hazare Trophy scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad from December 21. Shaw was dropped after Mumbai’s senior selection committee felt he was out of the 50-over competition. Need to get back to playing club games to regain form and some confidence.

This is not the first time the Mumbai selectors have dropped him. Earlier, he had also pulled out of the Ranji Trophy match saying that he needed to improve his fitness.

An MCA source said, β€œHis performance has not been up to the mark and the selectors felt the need for him to come back and play club cricket.

Shaw scored 197 runs after scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali’s best 49 runs in 9 T20 matches.

Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer was asked about Shaw after Mumbai won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by beating Madhya Pradesh in Bengaluru recently.

He replied, “We can’t babysit anyone, can we? He has played so much cricket. Everyone gave him input. At the end of the day, it’s his job to figure things out for himself. And he has done it in the past. Not that he hasn’t.” . He has to focus. He has to put on his thinking cap. No one can force him to do anything.”

Iyer said Shaw is a God gifted player and an immense talent. He just needs to improve his work ethic.

Rahane asked for a break

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer will lead Mumbai while Suryakumar Yadav and Shardul Thakur have also been included in the squad. Veteran Mumbai opener Ajinkya Rahane has asked for a break which has been allowed by the MCA selectors. Mumbai are traveling with a 17-member squad.
