Ponguleti Picks Holes in 2020 ROR Act; BRS is thrown away

Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Panguleti Srinivasa Reddy said on Wednesday that the government is fulfilling its election-time promise of Bhu Bharti (Land Rights Record) Act, 2024 to dump Dharani. He alleged that BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao sought votes from people in the name of Dharani and turned it into a plebiscite.

The Congress government is respecting the people’s decision. He said that after the rules are made within three months, the new law will be brought to the people. Failure to make rules under the 2020 Act made people useless.

β€œThe new law has been prepared after studying the ROR Acts of 18 states to save the mistakes of the past. We put the draft bill online and asked for suggestions for 40 days. BRS leaders Harish Rao and Vinod Kumar wrote to us suggesting the change. 33 Collectorates were debated and opinions were taken. Past mistakes are removed. Positive aspects such as the scope of immediate mutation have also been kept in the new act. After the passing of the 2020 Act, the registration of non-agricultural land has been stopped for four months and agricultural land for two months,’ said the minister.

Previous members like T. Harish Rao, Akbaruddin Owaisi, Kunmneni Sambasiva Rao and Palwai Harish Babu sought time to study the bill citing rules. Owaisi urged the government not to bulldoze the bill and not to make the same mistake that BRS did earlier. He then thanked Minister Sridhar Babu for accepting their request.
