Prime Minister Modi attended the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait

Kuwait City: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Golf Cup at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium here on Saturday, on his two-day visit to the Gulf nation, a first for any Indian prime minister in 43 years. Modi has come to Kuwait on the invitation of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mesal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.

The Prime Minister was joined by the Emir, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait to witness the grand opening ceremony.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the program also provided an opportunity for the prime minister to have an informal interaction with the leadership of Kuwait.

Kuwait was scheduled to play Oman in the opening match of the eight-team tournament.

Kuwait is hosting the biennial Arabian Golf Cup with the participation of eight countries including GCC nations, Iraq and Yemen.
The tournament is one of the most prominent sporting events in the region. Among the countries participating in the tournament, Kuwait has won the title the most times.

Earlier, addressing a large gathering of the Indian community at a special event ‘Hala Modi’ held at the city’s Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex, Modi praised the diaspora’s contribution to global development and said India has potential for global development. ‘Skill capital of the world’.

“Every year, hundreds of Indians come to Kuwait. You have added an Indian touch to the Kuwaiti society. You have filled the canvas of Kuwait with the colors of Indian skills. You have blended the essence of India’s talent, technology and tradition in Kuwait,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister expressed happiness over the presence of Indians from different corners of the country in the Gulf nation, calling it a ‘mini-Hindustan’.

Modi is scheduled to meet the Emir, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait on Sunday.
