President announces governors for 5 states: Bihar to Arif Mohammad Khan of Kerala, Manipur to Ajay Kumar Bhalla | India news

In a major reshuffle, President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday appointed two new governors and reappointed three others, reorganizing leadership in five states.

Veteran administrator Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as the new Governor of Manipur, replacing Anusuya Uike. Bhalla has taken over amid rising violence and deep communal strife in the state. More than a year after the ethnic conflict began in May 2023, the conflict has not been resolved, leaving the regime in disarray.

Another key appointment is Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who has been reassigned to Bihar. Notably, Khan was involved in a long public spat with the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in the state.

Other key appointments include Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has been transferred to Odisha, and General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, a respected retired officer, who will now serve as Governor of Mizoram. Meanwhile, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been reassigned to Kerala.
