BJP leader and former MP, Pratap Simha has supported the Mysuru City Corporation’s (MCC) proposal to name KRS road in the city after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Despite opposing Mr. Siddaramaiah on ideological issues, Mr. Simha, speaking to reporters in Mysore on Wednesday, sought to make it clear that the Chief Minister is an illustrious son of Mysore, whose contribution to the city’s development cannot be ignored. .
Mr. Simha’s support for naming the KRS road from the Lakshmi Venkataramanaswamy temple to the outer ring road came after Mr. Siddaramaiah came in opposition to the proposal from some sections, including the BJP’s alliance partner JD (S).
The proposal to name the road after Siddaramaiah is in keeping with the decades-long tradition of naming roads, circles, parks, institutions and dams.
Praising Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Simha said that he was a popular leader of the state, who won the popular mandate and became Chief Minister twice.
He acknowledged the contribution of Mr. Siddaramaiah, along with former MLA Vasu, for setting up a 200-bed branch of the Shri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research, Mysore, for which his name was proposed. Besides, Mr. Siddaramaiah was also instrumental in setting up a super-specialty hospital on the same road at a cost of βΉ 127 crore to ease the pressure on KR Hospital in Mysuru.
Therefore, the proposal to name the section of KRS road as ‘Siddaramaiah Arogya Marg’ is in keeping with the tradition of naming the road, he said, clarifying that the achievers are not only those of BJP or JD(S). Even from the Congress can come the case of Mr. Siddaramaiah when attacking the opposition for displaying “narrowness” and “weakness”.
Pointing out that the erstwhile Maharajas had established the Princess Krishnajammanni Tuberculosis (PKTB) Hospital on the road, Mr. Simha argued that roads, circles, hospitals, zoos, parks etc. had already been named. The Maharajas.
Although the Maharajas were beneficiaries of various projects, Rangacharlu, Sir M. The “brilliant minds” of Dewans like Visvesvaraya, Sir Seshadri Iyer and Sir Mirza Ismail were responsible for executing the projects, he asked. How KRS Dam Sir M. It would have been built without Visvesvaraya or electricity could have been brought to Bangalore without Sir Mirza Ismail.
It was necessary to appreciate the contribution of those who achieved achievements in the colonial period, he said, mentioning the contribution of Mr. Siddaramaiah in the construction of the office of the new Deputy Commissioner and the construction of Rajpath-concrete road leading to Dussehra Jatra.
βLet’s not see Mr. Siddaramaiah as a Congress leader. We should see him as an illustrious son of Mysuru,β said Mr. Simha.
