The Prime Minister’s comments come at a time when opposition political parties, including the Congress, have accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of insulting Ambedkar during a debate in the Rajya Sabha on 75 years of the Indian Constitution.
“Dr BR Ambedkar was the first to recognize this post-independence. His vision led to major river valley projects and the Central Water Commission. However, Congress never acknowledged his contribution to water resources management, which led to many inter-state water disputes continuing for decades,” Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi criticized the Congress for neglecting water resources initiatives since independence, leading to protracted inter-state water disputes.
“Under Atal ji’s leadership, efforts to tackle water challenges began in earnest, but the Congress stalled these initiatives after 2004. Today our government is reviving the river-linking campaign, and the Ken-Betwa link project is poised to transform Bundelkhand,” he said. .
The Prime Minister pointed to the Congress’s history of incomplete projects and revealed that many initiatives have been stalled for decades.

Modi criticized the Congress for prioritizing power over governance, saying that good governance is essential to address current and future challenges.
“The people of Bundelkhand have been suffering for generations, including water scarcity, due to lack of foresight of the Congress to address water issues,” he said, adding that the new project would secure the future of Bundelkhand farmers and their families.
In the program, the Prime Minister emphasized on the government’s efforts to accelerate the country-wide river linking campaign.
“The Ken-Betwa Link project is about to become a reality, opening new doors of prosperity and happiness in the Bundelkhand region,” said Prime Minister Modi, highlighting the significant benefits of the project for the 10 districts of Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Madhya Pradesh.
