Following the encounter of three Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terrorists in Pilibhit, security agencies have intensified their search for their local associates in the Terai region.
Three suspected Khalistani militants involved in a grenade attack in Gurdaspur were killed in an encounter with police in Pilivit on Monday morning, with Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav terming it a major breakthrough against the Pakistan-sponsored terror module. .
Bareilly Range Inspector-General Rakesh Singh said police and intelligence agencies are on high alert following several threats. “Investigations are underway and security has been tightened in the border area.
“If found helping terrorist elements, action will be taken,” he said.
This incident has also increased interest in the security of the Nepal border.
A significant portion of the border connecting Puranpur in Uttar Pradesh remains largely unmonitored due to challenging terrain and lack of proper infrastructure.
Security agencies including the police and the Armed Forces (SSB) have increased vigilance in the area.
Singh said that every effort is being made to prevent the entry of unwanted elements.
The breakthrough in Pilibhit comes after three blasts in different districts of Punjab this month.
A shootout broke out between KZF members and a joint team of Uttar Pradesh Police and Punjab Police in Puranpur area of Pilivit when three module members opened fire on a police party.
After the encounter, a police case was registered here on Tuesday after a video surfaced on X showing a man threatening to spread terror during the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, an official said.
“On December 24, a video was shared on various handles on the social media platform (X) in which a person was using offensive words against Hinduism. He also used derogatory words against political figures,” the police said in a statement.
The man had threatened to spread “panic” on January 14, 2025 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya) and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
A case was registered at the Cyber Police Station in Pilivit district after the alleged video went public, the statement said.
Asked about the number of people charged, a police spokesman said Tuesday, “It’s part of the investigation,” and declined to elaborate.
