President of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday (December 22, 2024) said the Tamil Nadu government should not be a passive spectator when 17 people died by suicide after participating in online rummy and losing money. Games, and the Madras High Court urged the authorities concerned to ensure that the ban on online rummy is overturned in the Supreme Court soon.

In a statement, he said it was unacceptable for the Tamil Nadu government to be able to appeal to the Supreme Court to hand over the Kallakurichi illegal liquor death investigation to the CBI and bring the case to trial in five days. A petition seeking a ban on online rummy – responsible for killing citizens of Tamil Nadu – has failed to get a hearing after more than a year.
