Mohammad Shami not considered fit for remaining Tests of Border Gavaskar Cricket News

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Thursday that fast bowler Mohammad Shami has fully recovered from his leg problem but is still not considered fit for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to the BCCI’s medical team, Shami suffered mild swelling in his left knee due to increased joint loading from his bowling workload when he bowled 43 overs in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh in November and played in all nine matches thereafter. Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

BCCI’s statement said, ‘After a long time, swelling is expected due to increased bowling.

“Based on recent medical evaluation, the BCCI medical team has determined that his knee requires more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads. Consequently, he has not been deemed fit for consideration for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the statement continued.

“Shami will continue targeted strength and conditioning work under the guidance of the medical staff at the BCCI Center of Excellence and build up the bowling loads necessary to meet the demands of the longest format of the game. His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on the progress of his knee,” it added.

Shami, who last played in a Test when India lost to Australia in the World Test Championship final in June 2023, recently made a successful comeback after a one-year break due to a knee injury.

The 34-year-old led the Bengal pace attack in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, taking 11 wickets in nine matches at an economy of 7.85.
