Now pay a 7.5% penalty for not installing tertiary-treatment water connections Chandigarh news

Residents and institutions owning land of one kanal or more will have to pay a penalty of 7.5 percent on the total water bill as they have not yet installed the third treated water supply. The decision was taken by the general meeting of Chandigarh municipality held on Tuesday.

According to the Chandigarh Water Supply Regulations, 2015, tertiary-treated (TT) water connection is mandatory for owners with properties of one kanal or more.

The Chandigarh civic body has proposed to sell TT water at Rs 7 per kilolitre, up from the current rate of Rs 2.50 per kilolitre.

According to the data of the Metropolitan Corporation, out of 7,385 one-canal houses, only 2,906 houses have been connected with TT water supply. And as far as institutions are concerned, only 150 out of 414 institutions have complied.

Revised Fees for Civil Services

The House also approved changing the fees for services like birth and death certificates.
In case of verification of birth certificate, which was free earlier, now Rs. 300 will be charged. Also, the first copy of the current certificate will remain free, while additional copies will be charged at Rs 100 per copy from the current Rs 12.

Adding a name to the certificate, which was free before, within one year, will now cost 50 rupees.

Mobile toilet van

Now the Chandigarh MC will hire mobile toilet vans for private events at a charge of Rs 6,500 for events up to 5 km and Rs 7,000 above. This amount also includes Rs 2,000 for security.
