The NEET PG counseling process in Telangana has been disrupted, leaving 8,000 medical aspirants in limbo. While the All India Quota (AIQ) counseling has successfully completed two rounds, the state-level counseling conducted by Kaloji Narayan Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) is yet to release its merit list.
Under normal circumstances, the AIQ and state counseling processes run concurrently, enabling students to make well-informed choices. However, the delay by KNRUHS has hampered this synchronization, creating an uncertain situation for the students. Despite registering for the state counseling weeks before, candidates remain unaware of their ranking, leading to widespread distress.
“This delay has put many students in a difficult situation. Some have bagged AIQ round two seats but face uncertainty about their eligibility for counselling. The resignation deadline for AIQ round two is December 26, and students are unsure whether to retain their AIQ seats or resign to participate in state counselling,” said Dr. Shiva Rama Krishna, representative of the Telangana Local PG Students Association.
The union has expressed serious concern over the impact of the delay. Another representative Dr. According to Vamshi, “The government has jeopardized the future of students by not conducting even a single phase of state consultation. Moreover, the AIQ counseling fee of ₹ 25,000 paid by the students is at risk of being wasted due to this disorganisation. Many students are also experiencing great mental stress due to the uncertainty of where to get admission. The Telangana government and KNRUHS should immediately release the state merit list and ensure that the counseling process goes ahead without further delay,” he said.
The association has appealed to the National Medical Commission (NMC) to extend the deadline for resignation of AIQ round two and delay the start of AIQ round three. They argue that this will give Telangana enough time to finalize its state eligibility list and conduct the first round of counselling.
