One more body was found on Sunday from the debris of a multi-storied building that collapsed in Sohana area of Mohali, Punjab, taking the death toll to two. The administration suspects that many more people are still trapped in the debris. Rescue operations are ongoing.
The body of 28-year-old IT professional Abhishek Kumar was identified by his father Inderpal, a resident of Ambala, who had been camping at the rescue site since learning of the collapse of the building last night.
Inderpal told The Indian Express that her daughter-in-law was working in an IT company in Mohali and her son used to go to the gym frequently. His friends said when the building started developing cracks at an alarming rate, everyone fled the gym. Abhishek got stuck after rushing to get his mobile phone.
Mohali Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Viraj S Tidke told The Indian Express that the rescue operation will continue till they rescue all those trapped. An engineer task force of 80 army and earthmoving equipment have been deployed in the rescue operation.
The body of a 20-year-old woman Drashti was found on Saturday night. She was staying in the paying guest accommodation on the top floor of the building.
The relatives of the missing persons have reached the scene in the hope of meeting their relatives. A three-storied building collapsed on Saturday while digging a basement in a plot adjacent to Sohana.
