CPI(M) removed PK Shasi from two more posts

The CPI(M) district secretariat on Saturday removed Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairman and former MLA PK Shasi from two more posts.

Shasi, who faced disciplinary action on charges of financial fraud, was removed from the post of Situ District President and President of Chumattu Thozhilali Sangh. Earlier, Shasi was promoted from the district committee to the area committee.

CPN district committee member PN Mohanan will become the new district president of SITU. TM Shasi will be the new president of Chumattu Thozhilali Union.

The party has left the decision to retain Shasi as the president of KTDC or not to the state government.

Mr. Shasi faced disciplinary action after the commission of inquiry found that he was directly involved in financial misappropriation. Although the party district committee asked him to leave the post of KTDC president and Situ president, he refused.

In 2018, Mr Shasi was suspended from the party for six months for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman. Although he returned to the party after two years, he again had to face disciplinary action for causing division within the party.

CPI(M) district secretariat meeting has found fault with state committee member and former MP NN Krishnadas for making indecent comments in public. Mr Krishnadas was criticized for his comments against media persons, calling him a “dog in front of a butcher’s shop”. He also faced criticism for his comments dismissing the “blue trolley” controversy as unhealthy for the elections.

The meeting criticized him for not correcting his stand even though the party leadership stood in opposition. The meeting showed that Mr. Krishnadas’ stand in the recent assembly by-elections in Palakkad had adversely affected the party’s prospects.

Party leaders were of the view that Mr. Krishnadas’ stand confirmed allegations of a split within the CPI(M) over how the United Democratic Front (UDF) should fight elections.

The party fielded P. who defected from the Congress party against UDF candidate Rahul Mamkootathil in Palakkad. It has been commented that bringing Sarin to the field is a proper step.

The CPI(M) assessed that the party had not lost its votes, and that the BJP had helped the Congress in some areas.
