Meerpet 2BHK residents endure water problem for 3 years

Hyderabad:For the past three years, residents of a 2 BHK residential complex near Rithu Bazar in Mirpet have been facing problems due to lack of drinking water. Despite repeated complaints and complaints to the administration, the problem has not been resolved. Families living here are forced to rely on private water tankers to meet their daily water needs, spending a lot of money.

The 2BHK or double bedroom houses were constructed by the BRS government in December 2021 to accommodate 80 underprivileged families who were earlier living in slums. The housing complex consists of five blocks, each block housing 16 families.

However, the proper water pipeline has not been laid, although it is estimated that it will cost around 33 lakh rupees to lay and connect the pipeline, the Mirpet Municipality has not been able to allocate the required amount.

Since then, residents have been relying on private water suppliers, which has become a financial burden, according to locals. Lakshamma, a resident, said, ‘We are living on a limited income and spending a lot on water is unbearable. Besides, we have to carry buckets of water upstairs. It’s exhausting.”

Another resident spoke about the challenges faced by poor families in the complex. β€œSome families here are so poor that they cannot afford water. They are forced to bring water from the surrounding settlements. We met the authorities several times but no one took any action,’ he said.

Saroja. El, another resident, shared her frustration over the lack of basic amenities. “This issue has dragged on for years. We just want a proper water connection. Is basic needs too much to ask?”

The locals have now demanded the government and local bodies to take immediate action to connect the water supply to their homes. They believe that addressing this problem is important to improve their living conditions.
