Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who reached the Jayastambh in Perne Phata to review preparations for the Koregaon Bhima War Anniversary, directed all government agencies to ensure that there is no shortage in the arrangements for lakhs of devotees to be observed on January 1. He also directed to ensure that there is no traffic jam in the area.
On Monday, Pawar addressed a review meeting held to review the preparations for the Koregaon Bhima War Anniversary program to be held on January 1. MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke, in-charge district collector and chief executive officer were present in the meeting. Zilla Parishad Santosh Patil, Pimpri-Chinchwad Joint Commissioner of Police Shashikant Mahavarkar, Director General of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) Sunil Warey, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, Public Works Chief Engineer of the department Atul Chavan, Superintendent Engineer Bappa Bahir and others were present. Pawar also paid homage at Jayastambh.
Keeping in mind that a large number of devotees are expected to attend the Jayastambha salutation ceremony to be held on January 1, the Deputy Chief Minister said that a detailed plan should be made from all sides. Care should be taken to ensure that the shortcomings of last year are not repeated.
A traffic management plan and layout of vehicle parking should be prepared to prevent traffic jams in this area. Teams should be deployed for sanitation, adequate water should be provided for toilets. In addition to this, attention should also be paid to the number of water tankers for drinking water, according to the statement issued by the District Information Office.
1821 Built by the British government to commemorate its soldiers who fought against the Peshwas at Koregaon Bhima in January 1818, the Jayastambh, a monumental obelisk, is located at Perne village on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway. The district administration, along with Pune City Police, Pimpri Chinchwad Police, Pune Rural Police and other agencies, have made detailed plans for police deployment, which will be made during the event.
The Deputy Chief Minister gave special instructions on beautification of the Jayastambha area, lighting system, installation of stalls and tents, parking facilities, traffic planning, health services, food and snack arrangements, drinking water, road maintenance, construction of temporary toilets, etc. Cleanliness and operation of waste collection and disposal vehicles, sanitation, provision of fire fighting vehicles in emergency situations, electrical arrangements and disaster management etc.
Pawar directed the Public Works Department and the Construction Department of the Zilla Parishad to carry out road maintenance and other minor construction works. Keeping in view the expected number of followers, he asked for the mobilization of necessary health services, teams and volunteers, deployment of sufficient ambulances and first aid kits to assist the elderly and disabled citizens who come to pay their respects at the Jayastambha.
