Makoka case: Aap Balian in police custody for a week Delhi News

A Delhi court sent the Aam Aadmi Party’s Uttam Nagar MLA on Friday Naresh Balyan in police custody till December 13, in respect of which a case has been filed against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

The MLA, who was in police custody in the extortion case, was arrested on charges under Makoka on Wednesday. On the same day in the evening, he was granted bail by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal in the extortion case.

Delhi Police requested special judge Kaveri Baweja’s court to remand Balian for 10 days.

The extortion case against Balayan stems from a police complaint filed by Gurcharan, a resident of West Delhi’s Mohan Garden, alleging that in July 2023, he received a ransom call demanding Rs 1 crore from gangster Sangwan.

Balayan’s name came to light last year after a Hindi news channel aired a recording of a phone call between Balyan and Sangwan. It is alleged that he played the role of a facilitator in settling the ransom demand made by Sangwan from the businessman.

A case was filed under MCOCA this year in a separate extortion case against Sangwan, allegedly operated from the UK.
