Local residents have blamed pollution for the increase in diarrheal outbreaks in Bharnikkam

Visakhapatnam: A serious outbreak of diarrhea has occurred in Bharnikkam village of Parwada mandal in Visakhapatnam, the district administration has asked for immediate action. On Wednesday, 10 people suffering from diarrhea were treated at Parawada Primary Health Center. According to CITU district vice-president Gani Shetty Satyanarayana, some patients were shifted to private hospitals in Visakhapatnam for better treatment. CPM treasurer for Satyanarayana and Anakapalle districts VV Srinivasa Rao visited the PHC center and later visited Varnikkam village.

Villagers said that the management of Ramki is dumping waste water in Rasani in Molladi Gadda, polluting the ground water and causing disease in Bharnikkam. Citing the pollution control board’s report, showing the increase in pollution in Molodi Gadda, the locals have demanded immediate action from the management of Ramki.

Villagers are urging authorities to protect public health in Parawada, Tanam and Tadi and address environmental concerns related to air, soil and water pollution. Diarrhea-affected people in Varnikkam are undergoing treatment in private hospitals in Visakhapatnam.
