While on a two-day visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (December 21, 2024) said that India and the Gulf nations share common interest in peace, security and stability in the West Asian region.
Mr. Modi’s visit to Kuwait comes two weeks after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria and the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Modi made the visit at the invitation of Sheikh Mesal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait.
The last Indian Prime Minister to visit Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981.
In a departure statement, Mr. Modi said his talks with Kuwait’s top leadership would be an opportunity to map out the future partnership between India and Kuwait.
“We deeply value our historic ties with Kuwait that have grown over generations. We are not only strong trade and energy partners but also share common interests in peace, security, stability and prosperity in the West Asia region,” he said.
Mr. Modi said he was looking forward to meeting the Emir, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait.
“This will be an opportunity to create a roadmap for future partnerships for the benefit of our people and the region,” he said.
“I look forward to meeting the Indian diaspora in Kuwait who have contributed immensely to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two nations,” added the Prime Minister.
