India bowler Jasprit Bumrah became the first fast bowler to take 50 Test wickets in 2024 by dismissing Australian opener Usman Khawaja on the first day of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide on Friday.
Birthday boy Bumrah is the third Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to take 50 Test wickets in a calendar year. The 31-year-old reached the mark in his 11th Test of the year, making it all but one of India’s matches in the format this year.
Bumrah entered the Test after registering his first win as captain in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth where he took figures of 8/72 – the best bowling figures by a visiting fast bowling captain.
