‘I have to do better’: Erling Haaland after Manchester City defeat to Aston Villa | Football news

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland says he needs to do better and convert chances after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by defending champions Aston Villa.

“First I’m looking at myself, I didn’t take advantage of the opportunities,” said the Norwegian player. “I have to do better, I haven’t been good enough,” Narvelli said after the game.

Haaland is currently enduring a lean patch, finding the back of the net just twice in City’s last eight games. The striker, who finished as the league’s top scorer in the last two seasons, also said the team trusts coach Pep Guardiola to turn things around.

“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that. He will find solutions. He has been doing this every year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder now than ever,” he said.

Manchester City have now lost 9 of their last 12 matches in all competitions and are sixth in the table, nine points ahead of Liverpool. But the Merseysiders have two games in hand.

On Saturday, John Duran and Morgan Rodgers scored for Villa as City dropped 24 points in the league before reaching the halfway point of the season. They have also conceded 27 goals in their last 12 games in all competitions.

“We have to think positively and I have incredible faith in the boys,” Guardiola said. “Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. Sooner or later we have to find a way to come back.
