Hyderabad

The state government has decided to purchase an additional 25,000 tonnes of soybeans to be produced during this year’s kharif/one kalam season. This will be in addition to the 59,000 tonnes of soybeans already procured through Markfed at the minimum support price of Rs 4,892 per quintal.

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao said that this decision was taken based on the suggestions of the wards and elected representatives of the district keeping in mind the interest of the farmers and instructed the Markfed officials to purchase more quantity. Accordingly, more soybeans were purchased in 49 procurement centers.

The minister said the state government had written to the Center to allow the state to procure 25,000 tonnes of additional soybeans and the proposal was under trial to ensure MSP to farmers. However, keeping in mind the interests of the farmers, the state government proceeded with the purchase without requiring the central approval.

He said that maximum 27,811 tonnes of soybeans were purchased in Adilabad district, 14,476 tonnes in Nirmal, 7,867.75 tonnes in Kamareddy, 5,413.85 tonnes in Nizamabad and 3,339 tonnes in Sangardi. The Center had initially given permission to purchase 59,508 tonnes
