Forest officials are working to achieve 50% greenery in Sri Sathya Sai district, says Collector

Shri Sathya Sai District Collector TS Chetan on Tuesday held a review meeting on the employment guarantee initiative of the Forest Department in the district focusing on the tree plantation program for the beautification of Anantapur city.

Mr. Chetan said that he is working with the goal of achieving 50 percent greenery in the district and instructed the officials to make a special plan in collaboration with the revenue and other departments.

Efforts to establish about 3.5 lakh nurseries by 2025-2026 and various earthworks like contour ditches, rack field dams, small water pits should be carried out in forests through National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Shri. Chetan said.

The Collector asked to take initiatives to build city forests in each Assembly Constituency focusing on establishing such projects on revenue land and on the slopes of Revenue Hills.

Mr. Chetan recommended the creation of an extended afforestation strategy for the period 2025-30. Similarly, he instructed the forest officials to initiate extensive plantation of trees on both sides of the national and state highways of the district.
