Moviegoers watching the late night show of “Pushpa 2” at a multiplex in Maharashtra’s Nagpur witnessed a real-life action scene when police raided the cinema hall and arrested a man wanted in murder and drug cases.
Vishal Meshram’s dramatic arrest shortly after midnight on Thursday (December 19, 2024) left packed audiences stunned, but police assured them they would continue to enjoy the film as they nabbed the accused.
“Meshram was absconding for 10 months and was finally tracked down after the police came to know about his interest in a recently released film,” an official from Panchpaoli police station said on Sunday (December 22, 2024).
“There have been 27 cases against the gangsters, including two for murder and drug-trafficking, and were known for their violent tendencies in the past, including attacks on the police,” he said.
“The officers were relentlessly chasing him, using cyber surveillance and tracking his movements in a new sports utility vehicle (SUV),” the official said.
“After tracking him on Thursday (December 19, 2024), the police threw a tire of a vehicle outside a cinema hall in the heart of the city, to prevent him from escaping,” he said.
Meshram was engrossed in the movie when he entered the police hall during the climax of the movie. Police surrounded him and arrested him immediately, giving him no chance to resist, the official said.
“Meshram is currently in Nagpur Central Jail and will soon be shifted to Nashik jail,” the police said.
