Hyderabad: A 15-day long session will be organized for self-help groups (SHGs) to train women on the use of drones in agriculture such as nutrition, fertilizer and pesticide application under the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ programme.

Drone pilot training will be imparted to one of the selected SHGs, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said. The nationwide program will involve State Self Help Groups.

Kishan Reddy, speaking to the media after providing free 100 sewing machines to women in Monda market in a program organized by JCI, said that 15,000 self-help groups across the country will receive drones under the program.

The selected SHGs are expected to generate an additional income of `1 lakh annually. They will be notified by District Committees for participation.

The Modi government approved the scheme with an outlay of `1,261 crore under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission, part of the Poverty Alleviation Program by the Ministry of Rural Development.

Kishan Reddy pointed out that the Center is emphasizing on empowerment of women through various schemes.

Since the introduction of drones in agriculture is at an early stage, state governments will closely monitor the interventions, provide handholding support to SHGs and help them get the business to cover at least 2,500 acres in a year.

Kishan Reddy said that the skill development centers started by him when he served as Amberpet MLA have now spread across all assembly constituencies of Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
