Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Tyson Fury regained his heavyweight championship from the Ukrainian on Saturday night. After winning the match, Oleksandr Usyk insisted he got an early Christmas present from the judges.
The “Gypsy King”, who was non-committal about his future, insisted that he won the fight with all three officials scoring it 116-112 in a unanimous decision. Fury, 36, remained unbeaten until he met Usyk for the first time in a four-belt unification fight in May, leaving Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena with two defeats on his record.
“Listen, this is what it is. I’m not going to cry over spilled milk, it’s done now,” Fury said. “I know boxing, I’ve been in it all my life – you can’t change a decision. But I find it a bit difficult, a lot actually.”
He added: “There was a bit of Christmas spirit. He got a little Christmas present.” Asked if the public would see him fight again, Fury said: “You might, you might not. Who knows?” Promoter Frank Warren also called the decision “nuts”, claiming the victory for Fury.
He said the boxer, who needs a win to start a trilogy fight, needs time to decide whether to retire or return to the ring. “It’s up to him. I mean, it’s just after the fight. Obviously emotions are running high. We’ll see,” Warren said. “It is what it is, and we’ll have to see what the future holds for Tyson. He’ll make up his mind.”
