BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai has said that he will not wear sandals and walk barefoot until DMK rules. Further, he said he would flog himself six times outside his residence in Coimbatore at 10 am on December 27 to draw public attention to the tragic sexual assault on a student of Anna University. Also, it was to condemn the police and the state government for “apathy” in handling such cases.
Addressing a press conference, Annamalai alleged that the accused, Gnanasekaran, was a DMK functionary, which the ruling party denied. The BJP leader, showing a photograph of the accused with DMK leaders, alleged that he was a student body office bearer of the ruling party.
Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathi claimed that the accused in the university student sexual harassment case was not even a primary member of the DMK. The BJP leader alleged that the accused committed the crime by being associated with the ruling party.

“It’s very simple,” he told reporters here. Since the accused belonged to the DMK, the police did not take action against him, he alleged, and wanted to know about the use of Nirbhaya funds to prevent such crimes.
Annamalai also questioned the manner in which the FIR was drafted and said that in this draft it is assumed that the victim has committed the crime. “DMK (government) should be ashamed to reveal the identity of the victim.”
Announcing that he would not wear shoes until the DMK government was removed, he said he would worship Lord Muruga and go on a 48-day ‘Viratham’ (spiritual fast) and worship at six ‘Arupdai’ temples. State by February, 2025.
