Will not wear slippers until DMK is removed from power, says BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annam India news

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu President K Annamalai on Thursday vowed not to wear sandals and walk barefoot until the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is ousted from power. Annamalai made the announcement while addressing a press conference after a female student of Anna University in Chennai was accused of sexual harassment on the campus.

The BJP leader said he would “whip” six times on December 27 at 10 am. This was done to draw people’s attention to the incident and call the police and the state government, he stressed.

Annamalai said the alleged culprit had links with the DMK, which the party denied. During the press conference, he showed photographs of the accused with DMK leaders, saying the accused were emboldened because of their connections with those in power.

Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Regupathi said the accused was not even a primary member of the DMK, news agency PTI reported.

A roadside biryani seller was arrested on Wednesday.

Annamalai also questioned the manner in which the first information was reported by the police. “The DMK (government) should be ashamed of revealing the identity of the victim,” he said.

The Tamil Nadu leader also announced that he will go on a 48-day fast during which he will pray at all the six ‘Arupdai’ temples of Lord Murugan in the state till February, 2025.
