Bengaluru braces for coldest December night since 2010 tomorrow, here’s what IMD says | Bangalore News

The weather forecast for Bengaluru this week indicates that night-time temperatures may dip to their lowest levels since 2010 in December, with average minimum temperatures expected to be below normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a minimum temperature of 12.4 degrees Celsius for Tuesday night. This is the last record low in the past 14 years—12.8 degrees Celsius, which was recorded on 24 December 2011.

The average minimum temperature in Bengaluru in December is usually 15.7 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature on Sunday (December 15) was 15.5 degrees Celsius. In the HAL airport area, it was 14.7 degrees Celsius, while in the Bengaluru International Airport area, it reached 14.5 degrees Celsius.

According to the weather forecast for the next 48 hours, most of the skies will be clear. Some places are likely to experience fog and mist from early morning. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 16 degrees Celsius.

The cold December weather in Bengaluru is due to continuous rains due to a low pressure system over the coast in recent weeks.

According to IMD’s historical data, the lowest minimum temperature recorded in Bengaluru was 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. The all-time low temperature for December recorded on December 29, 1883 is 8.9 degrees Celsius.

Between 1980 and 2010, the average minimum temperature in December was 16.2 degrees Celsius. During this period, January was the coldest month in the city, with temperatures averaging 15.8 degrees Celsius.
