Australian fast bowler Hazlewood has a calf injury, is due for a scan

Brisbane: Australia suffered a major setback on Tuesday as fast bowler Josh Hazlewood continued with calf strain and will undergo a scan to assess the severity of the injury.

The 33-year-old completed just one over before walking off the field on the fourth day of the third Test against India here.

“Josh Hazlewood reported a calf strain during this morning’s warm-up,” a Cricket Australia spokesman said.

“He will be taken for a scan to assess the injury.”

Hazlewood, who returned to the squad after missing the Pink Ball Test with a side strain, was seen discussing the matter with captain Pat Cummins, Steven Smith and physio Nick Jones before taking to the field at the Gabba.

Hazlewood replaced fellow fast bowler Scott Boland, who had played the day-night Adelaide Test, in the Australian XI for this Test.

If Hazlewood is unable to return to the field, Australia could be left a bowler short, potentially affecting their chances of dismissing India and securing an outright victory in the ongoing Test.
