Assistance was provided to the journalist’s family

ChennaiAmong the newly elected officials of the Chennai Press Club, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday met the demand of increasing the family allowance of journalists from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh within 24.

The government has issued such an order on Wednesday, which has been implementing various schemes for the welfare of journalists in the province, including the formation of the Journalist Welfare Board, which has 3,335 members across the province.

Although the previous government formed a committee to study the possibility of forming a Journalists Welfare Board, no initiative was taken towards its implementation, according to an official press release on Wednesday.

However, soon after the DMK government assumed office, the journalist’s pension was increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000, family pension from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 and various welfare measures like solatium were implemented for the families of deceased journalists. 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh in usage, the release said.
