Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday urged farmers to tie up with National Organic Cooperatives Limited (NOCL) to increase their income from organic farming. He said that he can expect to get at least 30 percent profit from his organic produce within two to three years.
“More than 70 percent of Tripura’s farmers produce organic produce, but they lack certification. I encourage you, the farmers to connect with NOCL. In the cooperative conference held this evening at Rabindra Shatavarshiki Bhavan, I would like to assure Shah that he will earn at least 30% profit from his products through NOCL within the next two to three years.
He said that three organizations have been established to provide quality seeds, for marketing and to link the farmers’ products to the world market.
“More than 35 cooperative societies in Tripura have applied for membership in these three institutions. At present, 3 thousand 138 different cooperative organizations are working here, including diary, fish farming, multi-purpose, poultry and animal husbandry,’ he said.
He said that the mobile rural mart launched through NABARD will provide India brand rice, dal and wheat at low prices in five districts and will provide essential commodities to many people.
He criticized the former Left Front government for introducing cooperatives which ultimately failed, saying they were mainly used to recruit party workers. He also criticized the CPN for giving preference to party workers by the previous government.
Earlier, per capita income was 98 thousand rupees, now it has increased to 1 lakh 77 thousand rupees. I want to tell the communists that the per capita income of Tripura is higher than that of Bengal. This is an example of good governance,’ he said. He also assured the people of the state that he aims to make Tripura a “developed Tripura” before visiting the state before the next elections.
“You gave mandate to BJP twice. We will come to the next election. Before that, I assure you that we will drive a development vehicle on the platform to visit Tripura”, he said. He also said that he will visit the state with a record of achievements in 10 years of BJP rule compared to 35 years of Marxist rule.
Emphasizing cooperation, Shah said, ‘Participation of 140 crore Indians is necessary in this process. Prosperity should reach every family; Happiness should reach every person, education and health should reach every person. If this is to be done, we have no other option but to cooperate.”
On Prime Minister Modi’s grain storage scheme, which is the world’s largest grain storage scheme, Shah announced the establishment of a 2,000 metric tonne storage capacity godown based on cooperative model in Tripura.
In the program, Tripura State Cooperative Bank has distributed micro ATMs to 50 primary cooperatives and has started cooperative petrol pumps and smart training centers.
