A record 91.27% voter turnout in Chennai Press Club elections held after 25 years

A record voter turnout of 91.27% was cast in Chennai Press Club managing committee elections held after 25 years on Sunday with 1,371 members casting their votes.

The last time the club was elected was in 1999.

Enthusiastic turnout

In the election held from 10 am to 5 pm, the members of the club enthusiastically voted for the positions of one president, two vice presidents, one general secretary, one treasurer, joint secretary and five committee members.

44 candidates were competing for various posts.

Oldest voter

Senior member of the club, 95-year-old VN Swamy, came from Madurai to cast his vote. Chennai Press Club Special Guidance Committee appointed as election officer retired judge of Madras High Court Justice V. Bharatidasan conducted the election. He was assisted by Assistant Election Officer PE Pandiarajan and Lakshmipriya Muthuramalingam.

Earlier, members of the Special Guidance Committee, including veteran journalist N Ram, met the Election Officer before the polling began.

Manikandan (Jaya TV) Treasurer; Nelson Xavier (One India Tamil) as Joint Secretary, and Akhila Iswaran (The Hindu), S. Palanivel (Polymer TV), M. Vijaya Gopal (ANI), P. Stalin (Puthiya Thalaimurai TV) and M. Gavaskar (Theekkathir). As a committee member.

The Election Officer handed over certificates to the newly elected officials.
