Thiruvananthapuram: Police said on Wednesday that a 60-year-old man was strangled to death by a group of people for protesting against drug addiction in the district.
The incident took place at 8.30 pm on Tuesday night in a village under the jurisdiction of Varkala police station.
The victim, identified as Shajahan, was allegedly assaulted by the gang for reporting their drug use to authorities, police said.
Shajahan sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
So far, no one has been arrested, the police said that the search for those involved in the crime is ongoing.
They said that Shajahan’s body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem.
